A hernia is a condition in which an organ or tissue protrudes through a weak area of muscle or connective tissue. Surgical treatments for hernia<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The most common surgical procedure for hernias is a hernia repair, also known as herniorrhaphy. Dr Lorenzo typically performs this procedure using laparoscopic techniques i.e. using small incisions. Dr Lorenzo will push the protruding organ or tissue back into its correct position and repair the weakened area of muscle or connective tissue to prevent the hernia from recurring.<\/p>

A laparoscope, a thin tube with a camera and light on the end, is inserted through one of the incisions and the surgeon uses it to see inside the body and repair the hernia. The recovery time for laparoscopic hernia repair is typically shorter and less painful than open hernia repair.<\/span><\/p>

Another surgical option for hernias is the use of a mesh. A mesh is a piece of material that is used to reinforce the weakened area of muscle or connective tissue, thus preventing the hernia from recurring. <\/p>

Hernia surgery is a safe and effective procedure with a very high success rate. However, as with any surgery, there are potential risks such as infection, bleeding, and complications related to anaesthesia.
